Limitations of the Russian Raw Material Export Model in the Context of Global Technological Development

The structural trends and determinants of developed countries are compared with structural shifts in the Russian economy. Consequences of Russian economic activity within the export-raw material model, manifested in structural deformations, are determined. Circumstances hindering structural development of the economy are indicated. How Russia has caught up with the world in science and technology is examined. Factors determining the increasing importance of the developing manufacturing, high technologies and knowledge-intensive industries in the Russian economy are formulated. Hindrances to technological development are revealed. Directions for structural development of the Russian economy are proposed.
